French Vintage Large Brass Jug

The most beautiful brass vase. A perfect statement piece for any dining table of hearth with a big bundle of flowers or branches in.

From Normandy, France, this polished brass milk jug was hand-crafted circa 1850. The outside is slightly textured by a technique called hammering. There is a scalloped collar where the neck attaches to the body. 

During the 1800’s, dairy farmers would transport milk from their farm to a distribution center or market. Homeowners would bring their own personal vessels to these gathering spots. The milk from the dairy farms would then be transferred into individual containers, such as this brass milk jug. In the early 1900’s, the need for these carafes abated, as the advent of trucks allowed milk to be delivered in bulk. It is the perfect statement piece! 

These are one of a kind vintage pieces. Pieces may have very subtle imperfections and wear from years of use. We embrace these as part of the items inherent beauty and story.
